Our Beavers have just spent the evening thinking about accidents and how they can stay safe around the home and our hall.

Accidents

The Beavers spent some time working on some role plays. They went through the following accidents:

  • Mum has scalded her hand filling a hot water bottle;
  • What to do if a mains power cable is smouldering;
  • What to do if there is a fire risk in the kitchen.

The Beavers really got into performing these. The important thing is to stay calm, get to safety and get adult help.

Risk Assessments

Another group of Beavers was asked to think about accidents that might happen in our hall. We had lots of suggestions, including trapping fingers in the doors, stacked chairs falling over etc to risk from heavy fire extinguishers!

We asked the Beavers to think about who is at risk from each of these, and what can be done to minimise the risk.

So while one group learned how to deal with accidents, the others learned how to prevent them.

Tonight’s meeting has not fully completed any badges, but has ticked off several requirements of the following:
