Last night, the Beavers got busy making a bird box from a kit. Hopefully, Pudsey is a better nesting ground as a result!
The reason the we wanted the Beavers to make a bird box was that the My Outdoors Challenge Award requires that they make something to help animals in the wild. In this case, Pudsey is the wild!
There was a twist though. A requirement for the My Skills Challenge Award is to complete 2 problem solving activities. So, the Beavers had to assemble the kit – without instructions!
The kit only had 7 parts, but it still took a steady eye to compare the picture they were given with the kit. In the end, the Beavers all did a great job. We had a bit of time at the end (because they built the bird box quicker than we expected), so they were able to get creative and decorate their bird box.
All the Beavers seemed to be really proud to show their bird box to their parents and take it home. We don’t blame them.
Badges and Investitures
We were pleased to invest 2 new Beavers into the colony last night. Welcome!
We were also delighted to present 2 of our older Beavers with their Chief Scouts Bronze Award. To get this, they had to complete all the challenge awards and obtain at least 4 activity badges too. It is fair to say that this takes 2 year’s of hard work and commitment. Hopefully a lot of fun along the way though. In any case, we are very proud of them, and hope they are just as proud of themselves.
Great Scouting, guys. Well done!
Next week, we hope the weather will be kind to us and we can get outside to play some sports and games.
