We have just run a Bring A Friend night with the intention of growing our Beaver Colony.
The event for this meeting can be found here.
Bring A Friend Night
A few weeks ago, we talked about some of the things that we would do if we had a bring a friend night. We decided to make some invitations to give to friends.
Well, things didn’t really turn out how we hoped. None of the people we invited were able to come! Not only that but the rain meant that the campfire that we were looking forward to had to be cancelled.
Still, we decided to repeat an evening from few months ago. Learning to light a candle safely means that we can melt chocolate and make S’mores. So, we first made some tea light holders out of Play-Do. Very colourful and imaginative.
Next, we talked about how to light a candle safely:
- Always make sure an adult is watching;
- Take off any loose or hanging clothing;
- Strike matches away from you;
- Do not lean over a lit candle;
- Dispose of used matches safely.
Finally, we broke out the chocolate buttons and digestive biscuits. We had some bamboo skewers already soaked, so we used these to harpoon the buttons and melt them on a spit!
Next week, we hope to get out and about. Put the ‘out’ into (Beaver) ‘Scout’.
We plan to meet at Sunnybank Meadow to play some wide games. We might even find some hidden treasure! We will be meeting by the entrance to the football pitches on Sunnybank Lane at the usual time. There will be a map on the event page.
This is subject to signoff by our line managers! Of course if heavy rain is forecast we will change the plan, but light showers are okay, so please bring a waterproof jacket.
