Our Beavers recently took part in the District Beaver craft day, held on 11/02/2017 at District HQ.
District Beaver Craft Day
The theme for the day was ‘Myths and Legends’, and there were several sessions spread throughout the afternoon in order to provide capacity for the number of Beavers expected to attend. In addition to the craft day, there was a competition where entries made before the day could be submitted for judging.
In the end, 4 of our Beavers represented us at the craft day, along with one of our new Leaders. By all accounts, all of them had a really good time. Some of the items that they made included swords, shields, a painted plaster cast of St George and the Dragon, a model castle and (best of all) a decorated cupcake. All in an hour! I noticed a lot of smiles from both Beavers and Leaders.
We also submitted a representation of Mount Olympus, home of the Greek Gods for the competition. We thought this was great. It had lots of Gods (which the Beavers learned about), and even its own underworld! Among other things, we now know where the name ‘Nike’ comes from.
Please Help Us!
This is actually an event that we have not been able to take part in recently. Thanks to a new volunteer, we were able to go this year. We really want to do more District events with the Beavers. They are a great way to make new friends and have fun trying something different. This is just as true for the adults as for the Beavers! The thing is, we still really need adults to help. The District diary can be found at http://www.westleedsscouts.com/diary.html and events are highlighted in brown. Please let us know if you are able to help. No experience is required and you are sure to find a warm welcome.
