Our Beavers have just spent a fun evening playing games, as well as designing some of the most fantastic machines in Pudsey.
We started with an old favourite from my own days in Cubs. It is called ‘Ladders’. The Beavers split into two teams. Each team member sits with their feet facing their opposite number. Each of these pairs has a number. When their number is called, they stand up, run down the ladder of legs, along the back and back down the ladder to their place. It is all about speed, as it is a race between to the two players.
Next, we played a game of ‘Pairs’. Each of the symbols that the Beavers had to find were things that are good or bad for teeth. We talked about how Beavers can keep their teeth and gums healthy.
What About These Machines?
We sat down with juice and biscuits to design our machines. We kept the theme of healthy teeth by asking the Beavers to design a machine to clean teeth. They could design am exercise machine if they wanted to though.
We asked the Beavers to really use their imagination. We hoped that some of the machines might be like something W Heath Robinson, Reuben Goldberg or Storm Peterson might have drawn. We were not disappointed.
The schools have now broken up in Pudsey for summer holidays. We don’t regularly meet in the hidays. It would be nice to organise a hike and picnic or similar over the summer, but this depends on there being enough adult volunteers to meet the required ratio. Are you interested in doing this? Something similar? Please let us know.
In any case, have a great summer and we will see you the first week back at school in September.
